Chief Bryan LaCivita is pleased to announce that the Raynham Fire Department has been awarded an approximately $277,100 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The funds will be used to purchase a new air compressor system and 33 firefighter breathing apparatus for the department. This new equipment will replace the department’s outdated units with the latest version of National Fire Protection Association compliant devices.
“This is the first time that Raynham Fire has received this equipment grant, making it a proud moment for our department,” said Chief LaCivita. “These funds will allow us to invest in newer equipment that is lighter, safer and designed to reduce stress on firefighters. Overall, it will help to protect our firefighters from the dangers of the job.”
The new equipment is expected to arrive for use in the spring.
Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG)
Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) are allocated to fire departments nationally to fund and aid the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.
These federal grants help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
